Why do street sweepers sweep the center of the road instead of the edges?

Ken Little

The city of Wilmington does generally have street sweepers clean at the curb, except in a few cases, such as too many cars parked along the curb, said Malissa Talbert, city spokeswoman.

“Another reason would be a significant amount of debris, such as leaves or sediment, accumulated on the center of the road. This is common this time of year with leaves falling,” Talbert said.
