Do you have any info on the ship that could be seen off Wrightsville Beach in June?

Tim Buckland

It was a U.S. Navy ship that was cleaning up the wreckage of the Marine Corps Harrier jump jet that crashed off the Wrightsville Beach coast in early May.

“Salvage and recovery operations, led by U.S. Navy’s Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, have been completed at this time,” Marine Corps Lt. John Roberts said last week.

The investigation into the May 6 crash continues.

“The investigatory process is very thorough and is intended to find the cause of the mishap in order to prevent the same thing from happening again,” Roberts said. “The findings and recommendations from this comprehensive process could potentially save future lives. Because the process is so thorough, it takes time. The review and evaluation of completed aviation mishap investigations can take many more months.”
