A sign on 41st Street and Shipyard Boulevard says the project is a 5-year investment. Does that mean they’ll be working there for five years?

Q. The sign that appears on 41st Street and Shipyard Boulevard states that this project is a 5-year investment. Is the sign saying it will take them five years to complete this project? So far, all that meets my eyes is they have cut down some trees and patched a few holes.

A. The paving of 41st Street is a city project, funded by a dedicated 5-year plan to improve infrastructure in Wilmington, city spokesman Dylan Lee said.

Work should be underway this month.

“There are numerous paving projects on the plan, which is in its fourth year,” Lee said.

More than half of the $41 million dedicated to the 5-year improvement plan, a total of $21 million, will be spent on improving city streets, according to the city of Wilmington.

“The paving of 41st Street, as is often the case, involved drainage work and, in this case, also sidewalk repair,” Lee said. “Those phases are essentially complete, and milling and resurfacing of the road should begin in early May.”
