Q. What is the average number of passengers in a Wave bus throughout an average week? What is the maximum number of passengers in a Wave bus during the average week? What is the passenger capacity of the average Wave bus?

A. Wave averaged 7,023 trips per week in June 2014, according to Jean Smith, the Cape Fear Public Transit Authority’s director of operations. Of those 7,023 trips, Wave averaged 3,796 on weekdays, 2,161 on Saturdays and 1,066 on Sundays, Smith said.

The maximum number of passengers on a Wave bus is not tracked, Smith said, but the average of passengers on a bus per hour was 15 in June 2014.

Wave’s large buses have a capacity of 31 passengers, according to Smith.
