Does the City of Wilmington Fire Dept offer free inspections of fireplaces?

Adam Wagner

The Wilmington Fire Department does not offer free fireplace inspections, a spokesman said, in large measure because they aren’t prepared to.

“Fireplace inspections are referred to chimney sweeps or someone in the chimney repair business that have the proper equipment for this,” said David Hines, the spokesman, in an email.

WFD does not have that equipment.

What are the rules for backyard campfires in New Hanover County and Wilmington?

Could you help clarify the rules on burning (fire pits, chimenea-types, etc.) within city limits?
