Who maintains the posted signs and string at the north end of Wrightsville Beach?

Q. Do you know who is in charge of maintaining the posted signs and string around the dunes on the north end of Wrightsville Beach? In some places, the string between the signs is coming unattached and is starting to litter up the beach.

A. Prior to Sept. 30, Audubon North Carolina had a contract with New Hanover County to maintain the posting, as well as to monitor breeding and non-breeding birds at Mason Inlet,” Town Manager Tim Owens said via email. “The work is part of the permit requirements for the move of Mason Inlet. The county chose not to renew Audubon’s contract, and as of Oct. 1, New Hanover County assumed responsibility for the posting.”

Owens said that county officials repaired and replaced the string on Friday and are scheduled to go back out this week to make additional repairs.
