Is there a state law banning dogs from businesses where no food handling occurs?

Ken Little

Q. Does North Carolina have a state law banning dogs from places of business other than those where food handling takes place?

A. Wanda Copley, New Hanover County attorney, said she is not aware of any such ban.

“The individual business could ban dogs on their private property, but there is no state ban,” Copley said.

Is there a law that bans pets, other than service animals, from stores?

Does the local health department have jurisdiction over health food bars, etc., made in private homes containing pets/animals but sold in public establishments?
