Why do a majority of the vehicles of CFPUA meter readers have out-of-state plates?

Pressley Baird

Q. Why do a majority of the registered vehicles of the meter readers for Cape Fear Public Utility Company have out-of-state license plates?

A. Meter reader vehicles for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority are all registered in North Carolina, said Carey Ricks, public information officer for CFPUA.

In fact, “most of (the vehicles) were purchased here in Wilmington at Capital Ford,” Ricks said.

CFPUA hires its own meter readers instead of contracting out the service, Ricks said.

When all the CFPUA projects are finished and paid for with rate increases, will we see rates drop back down?

How much money does the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority spend on new vehicles?
