What is the ‘Kerr Avenue bicycle facility’ that is in the city budget?

According to Mike Kozlosky, executive director of the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, “This Kerr Avenue widening project will widen Kerr Avenue between Martin Luther King, Jr Parkway and Patrick Avenue.

“The widening project will include four travel lanes, bicycle lanes, a median and sidewalks. Based on NCDOT’s policy, if the city desires sidewalks and bicycle lanes, municipalities must contribute funding for the incorporation of these improvements into the project.

“The City of Wilmington’s adopted Capital Improvement Program budget includes funding for the construction of bicycle lanes and sidewalks for incorporation into the Kerr Avenue widening project.”

The budgeted item totals $1.14 million, with $468,000 budgeted in 2015-16 and $672,000 budgeted in 2016-17.

Are there any plans to add a bicycle lane along Rogersville Road?

How bicycle friendly is Wilmington?
