Why was Northgate Drive, leading into the Willows in Leland, changed?

Julian March

The portion of Northgate Drive, which is privately owned, was changed to a four-lane divided street in anticipation of possible commercial use, said Robert Waring, the planning manager for the town of Leland.

“The street, as it was designed, was essentially more than what would typically be needed for a residential development,” Waring said.

The town is working with the N.C. Department of Transportation to realign Northgate Drive with nearby Baldwin Drive so both streets will intersect Village Road at the same point, which could change the layout of Northgate Drive.
