The Azalea Festival Parade was great but wondering why were several of the big floats empty?

The Azalea Festival parade included floats, marching units and bands, clowns, Azalea belles and Queen Azalea Ericka Dunlap at the N.C. Azalea Festival in Wilmington Saturday, April 14, 2012. Staff Photo By Matt Born WILMINGTON STAR NEWS

The floats were empty by mistake, according to Jordan Hinkley, an administrator at the Azalea Festival Office.

“Usually there are azalea belles on all of them,” she said. “We were just a little short this year.”

Why was there no live coverage of the Azalea Festival Parade on either WECT or WWAY?

How did the Azalea Festival and the Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off end up on the same weekend this year?
