Why are people allowed to park on the grass at Veterans Park and Ashley High School?

Jim Ware
Veterans Park

No statute prevents parking on the grass at the Veterans Park Complex. (StarNews file photo)

This question was answered by Sgt. J.J. Brewer, spokesman for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office:

“The deputies assigned to the schools and the Veterans Park Complex during sporting events are primarily responsible for the safety of the students and the public. While there is not a statute which prohibits parking on the grass at Veterans Park, it is certainly preferable that all vehicles park in designated parking lots.”
