Terry Horton will not return as the public address announcer for University of North Carolina Wilmington men’s basketball games, according to a university spokesman.

“We appreciated Terry’s many years of wonderful service,” said UNCW Senior Associate Athletic Director Joe Browning via email. “But just decided to go in a different direction with our public address announcer.”

I have been a season ticket holder since the ECAC (before CAA). Finally we have an announcer that can be understood. The acoustics in Trask are such that certain voices can not be clearly understood. Notice sometime during halftime when a young high pitch female speaking rapidly comes on the court with a wireless microphone. Can’t understand a thing. But then again that may be because my ears are ringing from the unreasonably high decibel range of the music. The Seahawk Club wants donors. Donors are older than students, don’t appreciate loud music(?) and are probably too polite to complain. But they can stay home and spend the money somewhere more pleasing to the senses. New scoreboard is nice. Now just add closed captioning.

I don’t really understand the issue with the problems understanding different sounds or people on the PA. I think Terry always did a good job and I also think the new guy does a good job too. I sit upstairs in Trask and have been since the days of the Martin’s. I have never once had a problem hearing or understanding anything in Trask. Yea, the music may be a little louder than my 980 WAAV haha – but it’s an athletic event!! Sounds to me like Terry Benjey needs to embrace the reason we as fans are at the games. It’s for the kids at UNCW not us old goats in the stands. If they enjoy their music have an open mind and try and enjoy it too. You are probably one of the ones b*tching about losing your seating that you have had for the last 30 years because you low ball your donation to the SHC every year. If you don’t like what you see or hear stay home turn on your CC and enjoy your RFD-TV.

The only voice I’ve known is Terry’s at UNCW games.
Not sure about the sounds, I’ve always heard fine.
    Terry will be missed.

TERRY is and was a true professional and all that Jazz at halftime is not..
Something happened here that we are not made aware of.
And real story we will never know, unless Terry has local interview.
He is not too old or out-dated.
