Who cleans up raw sewage spills for the CFPUA? How much does it cost?

Ken Little

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority crews “respond to and clean up any sewer system overflows,” utility spokeswoman Carey Disney Ricks said.

“CFPUA also does outreach to educate people in areas where community habits may have directly contributed to the overflow, like grease or wipes,” Ricks said.

Asked about the cost of cleaning up those spills, Ricks said, “It would depend on the spill. That is a very difficult thing to quantify.”
