What is the purpose of the traffic camera on U.S. 421 near the Alvin J. Page Shooting Range?

Amy Hotz

The camera installed on U.S. 421 in Wilmington across from the Albert J. Page Shooting Range is a virtual weigh station for overweight trucks, according to a N.C. Department of Transportation spokesman.

It’s a partnership project between the N.C. Highway Patrol, which actually operates the weigh stations in the state, and the N.C. DOT. It is the first one of its kind in the state and can determine the weight of the truck to tell whether it is violating the overweight restrictions.
