What killed the woman found dead in 2006 on the Snow’s Cut Bridge?

Matt Tomsic

Investigators haven’t arrested or identified anyone as a suspect in a 2006 fatal hit-and-run that left a woman dead on the Snow’s Cut Bridge, said Trooper B.R. Phillips of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Karmel Brown Lanier, 42, died after a car hit her as she walked over the Snow’s Cut Bridge on Aug. 7, 2006. Phillips said a witness saw a car drive past Lanier’s body, but the witness couldn’t give troopers a description of the car.

Lanier was walking in the northbound lane of the bridge at 2:40 a.m. when she was hit.
