What’s going on with the construction on Independence Boulevard? For the last few weeks, there was little work going on.

Ken Little

There has been ongoing water line, sewer line and storm drain installation work in recent weeks, and also some paving in the areas of Independence Boulevard that are being widened, says N.C. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Garifo.

“The contractor was not allowed to have lane closures from July 1 through July 6

due to the holiday time restrictions on the contract, so there was no work at all during that time frame,” Garifo says.

Remaining curb, gutter and paving work should begin “very soon,” Garifo says.

“All work should be completed by early September,” she says.
