Why are there new medians on Eastwood Road?

The median turn lanes on Eastwood Road were placed there under an agreement between the Autumn Hall developer and the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The person who asked this question also reported seeing trucks drive over the curbing and was concerned about whether it was a hazard.

All the turning radiuses for U-turns were designed to accommodate traffic that travels that section of the road, according to DOT officials.

Anyone who stops and drives over the islands is doing so under his own accord, not because of a design flaw, said Joe Chance, Deputy Division Traffic Engineer for the DOT.
