Is the back gate at Halyburton Park accessible to the public?

Merton Vance

The gate is available for public access most of the time.

“Typically, it’s left open so the public can access trails from George Anderson Drive,” said Andy Fairbanks, Halyburton Park supervisor.

The gate also provides the park staff with access to trails to do maintenance and occasionally is closed when some types of maintenance is being conducted, such as a controlled burn to burn off brush, he said.

On a few occasions, the gate was left locked by mistake, he said.

For bicyclists and pedestrians, access to Halyburton Park should get easier when the city completes the next section of the Cross-City Trail, which will link John D. Berry Drive to the Cameron Art Museum, passing through Halyburton Park.
