What is the New Hanover Jail doing to prevent an H1N1 outbreak?

Vicky Eckenrode

Dept. Charles Smith, a spokesman for the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office, said hygiene is a priority at the New Hanover County Detention Facility.

“All inmates who come into the facility are required to take a shower upon entry into the housing units. Soap, water and towels are provided in each inmate cell and antibacterial hand-washing units have been installed in each of the housing units,” he said.

“For safety reasons, inmates are not permitted to use bleach, however, each cell is cleaned after it’s vacated and prior to the next inmate.”
