Why is the American flag at Veterans Park beside Ashley High taken down when there is a game or practice on the fields?

Brian Mull

According to the person responsible for taking care of the flag, game and practice schedules have no bearing on its flying.

Neil Robertson, the program coordinator with the New Hanover County Parks Department, said the flag comes down anytime the wind speed exceeds 15 miles per hour, because strong winds will damage the flag.

Robertson said the current flag is on its way to being repaired. If that’s not possible, he’ll buy a replacement, as he typically does every two to three months, anyway.
