What is the status of the proposed Frank Theaters complex at Brunswick Forest in Leland?

Judy Royal

Much excitement surrounded the February 2008 announcement that Florida-based Frank Family Entertainment Group planned to open a 60,000-square-foot entertainment complex in the Villages at Brunswick Forest, a 160-acre town center in Leland, by mid-2009. It was to include a 14-screen movie theater. Yet today there is no sign of a cinema or any other entertainment there.

Brunswick Forest spokesman Tobin Spirer said in May that Frank had asked for more time as officials consider the slow economy, so the future of the project is uncertain. Spirer and other Brunswick Forest officials hope to have a theater there within the next two years. Representatives from Frank have not returned calls about the proposed theater, but we will update when there is new information.
