What are they building at I-140 and Market Street in Porters Neck?

David Ennis

According to a January 2009 StarNews story, earth movers are clearing and grading land, but construction of the new Lowe’s Home Improvement shopping center in Porters Neck will not likely be complete for a couple of years.

Jimmy Black of Alliance Commercial Properties in Greensboro, which is developing Porters Neck Crossing with Pine Ridge Properties of Wilmington, said construction plans have been delayed because of water and sewer problems. Those problems included a state-imposed moratorium – since lifted – on new construction along the Northeast Interceptor sewer line, which will serve the center.

The 350,000-square-foot shopping center on Market Street and I-140 will be developed in three phases, Black said. The first phase is the Lowe’s store, with construction expected to begin later this year or early next.
