MyReporter.com user Susan said she has been trying to find canned corned beef (not corned beef hash) in Wilmington area grocery stores, but has had no luck.
She wonders why that is.
A voluntary recall of 87,000 pounds of beef products from Brazil might explain the disappearance of canned corned beef from the shelves. Here’s a link to the May 2010 news release from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service: Illinois Firm Recalls Imported Beef Products Due to Potential Animal Drug Contaminant. The release said the products might contain the animal drug Ivermectin, a broad-spectrum antiparasitic used as a deworming agent in live animals.
If you know where Susan can find canned corned beef in a local grocery store, post a comment below with details. Thanks.

I just checked today 6/22/12. Mansfield, Ohio WalMart has both Hormel and Libby 12 oz cans of corned beef – both from Brazil for $4.98. They didn’t have any for months last year. Good luck. I like to heat it in order to remove a little of the grease & crumble it in quiche too.
The Hormel stuff is yucky – they’ve made corned beef into SPAM.
