The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority tests for Chromium-6 annually.
Carey Disney Ricks, a spokeswoman for the authority, said water has been tested for the past 10 years under the EPA unregulated contaminate monitoring program.

“I am pleased to say that total Chromium has been below detection limits in all of our testing and therefore the Chromium-6 would also be below the detection limit,” she said.
Chromium-6 is a probable carcinogen. Earlier this month, the EPA asked local communities to test more carefully for the chemical.
