Is there a New Jersey Day gathering in Wilmington?

Jessica Toomer

New Jersey Day is celebrated on Dec. 18 to commemorate New Jersey’s admission to the Union. However, we weren’t able to find any information on events or gatherings in Wilmington to celebrate the day.

Former New Jersey residents and people that have family ties to New Jersey get together twice a year for a picnic at River Road Park. If anyone is interested to be on the e-mail lists as to the dates of the Spring and Fall Picnics please e-mail me at hockbury@bellsouth.net

When I lived in New Jersey as a teenager, my friends made fun of my being from “Nawth Cahlina,” where we had “hookworm and moon pies.” Now it seems New Jersey-ites have gotten the message Wilmington is a pretty nice place to live, as half NJ has moved down here (not to mention the Long Island NY contingent).
