City of Wilmington recreation supervisor John Rancke explained that each day the five softball fields at Olsen Park need to be maintained, lined and prepared for the games scheduled each night in league play.
League games will be played on the fields throughout the week in the men’s, women’s, church and coed divisions. In addition, the Wilmington Senior Softball Association will be using the facility for double-headers each Tuesday and Thursday morning.
Rancke said all of these games will be putting “stress on the fields.”
Those who wish to take some infield practice or a round of batting practice can use fields such as those at Robert Strange Park near the Martin Luther King Center or the remaining field at Empie Park.
