How much profit does the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course make annually?

Brian Mull
StarNews

StarNews reporter Brian Mull reported several years ago that the golf course is now set up as an Enterprise Fund – essentially planned to break even each year. The city’s budget department projects revenue for the upcoming year, usually setting a conservative figure.

However, improved course conditions have helped the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course turn a profit in recent years.

According to Amy Beatty of the City of Wilmington, the golf course generated a $42,000 profit in 2009, a $259,000 profit in 2008 and a $262,000 profit in 2007. Out of those funds, roughly $410,000 was transferred into the Golf Course Capital Projects Fund, some of which was used for tee box and clubhouse restoration projects performed over the last few winters.

The number is smaller for 2009 because January and February were horrific locally for cold and rain, which cost the golf course numerous rounds. When the 2010 numbers are released later this year, officials are expecting a similar kind of number because of below-normal temperatures and snow during those same months.
