What beaches allow campfires?

There are a few places you can still light a camp fire.

Carolina Beach allows campfires only at Freeman Park (the north end) and only in fireproof containers. See the rules here: www.carolinabeach.org/site_new/pages/freeman_park.html

Masonboro Island requires that you use obvious previous campfire areas. Do not burn trash and do not burn natural vegetation found on the island. Here are the details: www.nccoastalreserve.net/uploads/Image/siteMaps/guideToVisitingMasonboro.pdf

Topsail Beach allows charcoal grills and other similar grills but no campfires. www.topsailbeach.org/index.asp?Type=B_LIST&SEC={3D19B946-401B-4B20-A3AF-D7710E7AB2DF}#{866EB228-2B49-400A-900B-2D909B41E683}

Oak Island allows campfires on the beach with a bonfire permit. The permits are free and can be obtained from the Town Hall. The permit comes with rules you must follow to keep the fire under control. Fires are not allowed from May 1 through Nov. 15 in order to prevent harm from nesting sea turtles.

No campfires  are allowed on the beach at North Topsail Beach, Surf City, Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, Sunset Beach or Kure Beach.

Rules are subject to change. So before you light a fire, double check with the appropriate authorities.
