Are there plans for additional traffic signals along Carolina Beach Road south of George Anderson Drive?

The section of roadway is currently part of a project that addresses the median crossovers from Snow’s Cut Bridge to George Anderson Drive, says N.C. Department of Transportation Division Engineer Joseph Chance.

Two new signals will be installed as part of the project, Chance says. One will be at U.S. 421 and River Road/Sea Breeze Road. The other will be at U.S. 421 and Silver Lake Road.

“The other crossovers within this corridor will be closed or converted to a directional left U-turn movement,” Chance said.

The DOT and the city of Wilmington held a public meeting in fall 2009 at Codington Elementary School on the project, Chance says. The projected completion date of the project is July 1.

What is wrong with NC’s DOT? It obvious to a child that all the forced U-turns instead of traffic lights at busy intersections are the greatest cause of traffic problems and wrecks in Wilmington. Why on earth aren’t lights installed at crossroads instead of forcing people to make U-turns — which are totally illegal where I live?!!

Thank goodness they’re finally going to install one at the Seabreeze/River Road intersection…that’s been a dangerous spot for years!

I think Carolina Beach Road and Silver Lake Road intersection also needs a traffic light.
