The property at Market Street and Kerr Avenue, Wilmington, next to Whitey’s, is the site of the old El-Berta Motor Inn.
The motel was torn down, but the land is still owned by the Prevatte family, which also owns Whitey’s.
The city of Wilmington received a site plan for a Walgreens drugstore, according to Jamison Fair, the city’s senior planner for current planning.

Great just what Wilmington needs another big chain drugstore!
Hey Doug,
More jobs for the unemployed. Not a bad deal.
More minimum wage jobs with no benifits, just what Wilmington needs!
Some people would rather have jobs without benefits than no job at all. And it will at least create some work for regional contractors. Plus they’ll pay property taxes and generate sales tax revenues that help fuel the city’s budget. Can you recommend a better fit for that property? And when brainstorming that answer, consider the economy.
well folks its not like that little space is going to really make a difference what goes there. Would you rather it be another bank or resturaunt? And when one is unemployed any money is better than no money at all. Why not a walgreen’s? You have a better idea?
How about planting some trees, or developing a small park, or maybe a small library, or maybe a small establishment to be used for conducting business meetings, or a small theater, or we can just let Whitey determine the use for his property, whatever it may be.
