How many cases of rabies were confirmed in the past 5 years in New Hanover County?

During 2005-2010, there were 52 positive rabies cases in the county, according to New Hanover County Animal Control Services.

Thirteen cases of the virus were confirmed in 2010.

2009 was the most active with 20 animals found to have rabies. That was the most county officials had seen in a single year for more than a decade.

In 1996, animal control officials counted 19 confirmed cases of rabies in the county.
