Where can I find a good breakfast restaurant?

City and country lovers alike find the best of both worlds each morning in Wilmington. Breakfast here can be grits and biscuits or Eggs Benedict with crab. No need to wake up early on Sunday. Brunch is available.

Dixie Grill

116 Market St., Wilmington [Map this]

Bacon, eggs, grits and biscuits are this genuine greasy spoon’s signatures, but contemporary fare like honey whole-wheat French toast and fried green tomato BLTs are offered, too. The 85-year-old restaurant is in a 105-year-old building over a legendary underground stream named Jacob’s Run. It’s a great place to begin a downtown tour.

Whitey’s

4501 Market St., Wilmington [Map this]

(910) 799-3430

Casual and neighborly, this simple breakfast house’s fare is cheap and basic but good.  Expect the homey usuals — Western omelets, malted Belgian waffles, steak and eggs any style – along with some Southern staples like homemade biscuits, liver pudding and fried fish with grits and eggs.

Boca Bay

2025 Eastwood Road, Wilmington

Lots of people flock downtown for breakfast at Dixie Grill or the hip brunch scene at next door’s Deluxe, where a flamenco guitarist entertains the crowd. But don’t miss Boca Bay’s abundant and delicious brunch. Eggs Benedict, braised beef, an omelet station offering all sorts of fillings, fresh baked goods , waffles with fresh whipped cream, crepes, pasta, pastries, etc., etc., are served in a casual but stylish tropical setting. Think Bermuda villa.
