Why is there no median cut on Randall Parkway at the State Employees Credit Union?

Q. When putting a median on Randall Parkway between Kerr and South College, why did they not leave an opening for the State Employees Credit Union? Now cars headed east will have to make a U-turn at the light at S. College. Seems dangerous to me.

A.  According to Dylan Lee, Wilmington’s GTV-8 station manager and a spokesman for the City Manager’s Office, the idea behind having medians on busy roads is to limit left turns, therefore reducing potential accidents and increasing safety.

“The median in front of the State Employees Credit Union already accommodates two opposing left turn lanes for S. College Road and the Lighthouse development,” he said. Also, the SECU, which has plans to rebuild on the site, will provide additional access points behind the new building and off of University Drive.
