Q. Since we are considered East Hollywood with representatives from all of the major studios, is it possible that porno films are being made in Wilmington? If so, do we have laws against it?
A. “I have not heard of any pornographic films being shot in Wilmington,” said Aaron Syrett, director of the N.C. Film Office.
Syrett said the N.C. Film Office “does not deal with any aspect of that industry.”
Any calls from producers of “adult content” are referred to the N.C. Attorney General’s Office.
There’s a big distinction between projects filmed in Wilmington and what people might consider porno movies, Syrett added.
“I want to make it clear. The motion picture industry and the adult film business are two separate industries,” he said. “Just because we have businesses with all major studios does not mean that ‘adult’ content follows that. They are separate.”
N.C. law prohibits creating obscene material for dissemination.
