Here are some of the biggest and most popular races in Wilmington:

Triathlons

Beach2Battleship, ranked one of the top 10 triathlons in the world by Triathlon magazine, is the featured event. It is in its sixth year of existence, and about 2,000 people participate in it. This year’s race is Oct. 26.

The Wilmington Family YMCA triathlon is in its 35th year of existence. The September event is considered a sprint triathlon (mile swim, 12-mile bike, 3.1-mile run), and usually has about 1,000 participants.

In March, the Azalea Triathlon (300-yard swim, 10-mile bike, 3.1-mile run) is run and has about 800 participants.

Marathons

The Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon (and half marathon) runs the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day in March and has more than 2,000 runners.

In November, the Battleship Half Marathon will celebrate its 15th year of existence with its largest field of runners, 2,250.
