Q. How much was Newtown, Conn., Police Chief Michael Kehoe paid to speak at the N.C. Police Executives Association Conference, recently held in Wilmington? Were public funds used?
A. Michael Kehoe, the Newtown police chief, was reimbursed for his round trip flight and the cost of his rental car from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport to Wilmington.
According to Chief Gregg E. Jarvies, the N.C. Police Executives Association’s executive director, six speakers including Kehoe had their lodging costs paid as part of the association’s account.
Neither Kehoe nor any of the other speakers were compensated for their appearances.
“We did not offer, receive requests for, or pay any honorariums or fees to conference presenters,” said Jarvies, who lives in Hillsborough.
Jervies added that no taxpayer money was used to pay Kehoe’s expenses.
