Q. Is there any place to get Detroit-style pizza in Wilmington? (Other than Little Caesar’s)
A. Ahh – Detroit-style pizza – the deep dished scrumptious square shaped pizza with the melt in your mouth chewy yet crunchy crust.
Old Chicago, which used to be on Market Street, did offer Detroit style pizza. It however closed in 2010, so yes, at this time, Wilmington’s three Little Ceaser’s locations — 2528 Castle Hayne Rd., (910) 343-1466; 951 University Dr., (910) 794-3325; and 7028 Market St., (910) 681-0787 — are technically the only ones offering the official “Detroit style pizza.”
However, Detroit style is described as very similar to Sicilian style that’s offered at any one of the New York pizza joints in town, of which there are a plethora. Here are four.
Brooklyn Pizza Co., 6932 Market St., (910) 395-5558
I love NY Pizza, 28 N Front St., (910) 762-7628
Pizzetta’s Pizzeria, 4107F Oleander Dr., 910-799-4300
Elizabeth’s Pizza, 4304 Market St., 910-251-1005

Or if you happen to be in Raleigh, track down the Klausie’s Pizza Truck. Here’s a story about bringing Detroit style pizza to the south. http://slice.seriouseats.com/archives/2012/09/behind-the-slice-klausies-pizza-truck.html
