What are these ladybug-type critters that seem to cover one up at the beaches lately?

Q. What are these “ladybug” type critters that seem to cover one up at the beaches lately. Not just on the beach but on the ends of the piers.

A. The Environmental Health division of the New Hanover County Health Department, which deals with insects, hasn’t received any complaints or reports of ladybug-like insects. Dave Jenkins, a senior environmental health program specialist with the division, said the bugs could be kudzu beetles, which are similar in size and shape to ladybugs but are a greenish-brown hue.
