What business was originally in the Mellow Mushroom building on Oleander Drive?

The Mellow Mushroom building at 4311 Oleander Dr. is one of those places that has had a complete about face in the style of tenants. Today’s laid back Mellow Mushroom building started as a Golden Corral in 1979, which lasted until 1987. After several years of vacancy, an insult-driven type of restaurant, O’Brian’s Rip Roarin’ Ribs, opened in 1990. There was nothing like having a waiter in a Fred Flintstone outfit making fun of your clothes, laughing at your shoes or insulting your mother, friends or even your dog. The saving grace was the food, really great ribs.

After a while, the costumed and insulting wait staff was gone, but the great ribs remained. After heavy hurricane damage in the late 1990’s the place was redone and had a nice new atmosphere. Oh Brian’s closed in 2000 and the Mellow Mushroom opened in 2003.
