When will the sand at Wrightsville Beach be leveled off? There is a giant ridge there.

Q. When will the sand at Wrightsville Beach be leveled off? There is a giant ridge and physically challenged folks have no way to walk by the water. Its been like this for couple of months at least.

A. “Barrier island are dynamic structures which Mother Nature continues to alter over time and escarpments are naturally occurring, especially during the spring months and more recently the adverse weather patterns which have traveled through our area,” said Mike Vukelich, director of public works for Wrightsville Beach. “Over the last few months the town has had crews on the beach in an attempt to make the area safe for visitors and residents by smoothing the most severe escarpments and providing access at major street ends.

“We do not plan to complete any more of this type of work, as we are prohibited from having heavy equipment on the beach and cannot do any bulldozing to smooth the area, due to the upcoming turtle moratorium, which begins May 1,” he said, adding that Wrightsville Beach is tentatively scheduled for beach renourishment in the spring of 2014.

ahhhhhh don’t care whether or not WB washes away completely. It’s a barrier island. Ma Nature is going to do what she wants. Money is spent every year to replace sand.

WB is over crowded. It’s all because the “beautiful” people, or at least they think they are in that category have to be seen at WB.

I would rather be by the pool, no sand, no jerks, and don’t have to worry about parking
