There are a couple places to find sailing lessons in the Wilmington area. Here are a few options:
For starters, Cape Fear Sailing Academy is based out of Southport. It’s piled up the sailing awards, according to its web site, www.capefearsailingacademy.com. The academy offers a collection of classes from basic sailing to advanced coastal cruising. Courses run from two days for the basic sailing course for $489 per person to a four-day cruise on the water for $1,600.
Also in Southport is Priority Sailing, which offers cruises for between $75 and $60 per adult, depending on the boat chartered. The company also offers a collection of classes, starting with introduction to sailing with $80 for a 3.5 to 4-hour lesson. Check out their full repertoire here: www.prioritysailing.com
In Wilmington, Sail Wilmington NC (www.Sailwilmingtonnc.com) offers sailing tours on the Cape Fear River that can include instruction. Prices start for $75 for a private, one-hour tour.
Local flotillas of the Coast Guard Auxiliary periodically offer courses on boating safety.
