Q. Was there ever a school in Wilmington by the name of Zebulon B. Vance?  Time period would have been in the 1940s.

Zebulon B. Vance was born in 1830 in Weaverville, in Buncombe County near Asheville. He was governor of the Confederate State of North Carolina during the Civil War, an N.C. Congressman, state legislator, and Confederate colonel. He was an influential leader of the Civil War Reconstruction in North Carolina and is considered by some to be the most popular political leader the state has ever produced.

Being the astute and beloved person that he was, there are many monuments, towns, buildings and schools named after him all across the state. The schools found named after him are Zebulon B. Vance High School in Charlotte, and Zebulon B.Vance Elementary in Kittrel. None were found in the Cape Fear area.
