Q. Many people consider Mayfaire the new downtown. What is the crime scene like at Mayfaire? How many arrests in 2012 on the Mayfaire property? Any violent crime?
A. The Wilmington Police Department’s crime analyst, Barry Coburn, in collaboration with the StarNews, defined Mayfaire as the Military Cutoff corridor bordered by Eastwood Road to the south, Old Maccumbers Station Road the east, Monument Drive to the north, and Town Center Drive to the west.
Coburn calculated that in 2012, that area recorded 51 Part I Crimes, a category composed of robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft, among other things. The vast majority of the crimes in 2012 were larcenies, of which 45 were reported last year, or 88 percent of the total.
As for violent crime, there were no robberies, rapes, aggravated assaults or murders logged in Mayfaire last year.
