Lt. Harry Humphries of the Carolina Beach Police Department said the stolen items would be held by law enforcement until the case is resolved.
“They’re evidence,” Humphries said.
Timothy Glenn Gillespie, 45, is charged with nine counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of larceny.
Gillespie was arrested Dec. 27 after a business owner allegedly saw him steal mail, and then followed Gillespie to his room at a Florence Avenue boarding house and called police.
When officers searched the room, they found “bags and bags” of ripped up mail, including bills, gift cards, Christmas cards and catalogs, Humphries said.
An estimated 100 people fell victim to the Christmas Card thief.
