New Hanover County does not charge location rental fees to film at any of its properties except Airlie Gardens, according to the county’s Media Productions Coordinator, Mark Boyer.
The state, county, Wilmington and the University of North Carolina Wilmington suspended most of the fees associated with filming about 10 years ago.
Producers still must pay for insurance and any staffing costs during filming. Most major productions are guided by location agreements, which specify the period of time the production will film and how much it will pay, Boyer has said.
In many cases, filmmakers bring their own generators, so the cost of filming is relatively low. Since most of “Revolution’s” shoots at the former WASTEC facility have taken place during the day, no extras staffing costs have been incurred, Boyer said.
