One local hairstylist says to look for a Deva Curl certified salon. There are 13 in Wilmington listed at MyDevaCurl.com.
Hairlinz Design Group (4504 Fountain Drive) is one of them.
“With Deva Curl, their philosophy for curly hair is, ‘don’t fight it, just go with it,’ ” said Hairlinz owner Blair Krier. “Curly hair has to be cut dry, you have to be able to see where it lives and cut it where it lives.”
Krier invested in the two-day Deva Curl workshop required to become salon certified and carry the Deva product line since the majority of her clients, she says, battle with curly, frizzy hair.
“Most of them want it straightened, but now with this system, they are going with what they have and they love it,” she said.
Naturallycurly.com lists seven salons on their site that are curly hair friendly including, Great Clips in Carolina Beach.

Frizz buster tips:
• Use shampoos specifically designed for curly hair. Normal shampoos dehydrate curls and cause frizz.
• Don’t over highlight curly hair. Highlighting promotes frizz, says Krier.
• Use a finishing curl texturizer or sculpting gel to eliminate frizz. Most hair salons, beauty supply stores, and drug stores carry curly hair products.
