Q. You recently answered a question about the repaving of Military Cutoff near Eastwood Road. When the repaving of Military Cutoff from Viking Lane to Eastwood is completed, will the jogging/biking path be continued to the sidewalk at Eastwood Road? The Military Cutoff Trail currently dead ends at Drysdale and does not continue to Eastwood Road.
A. The Military Cutoff Trail Extension is not included in the N.C. Department of Transportation resurfacing project, said Amy Beatty, superintendent for recreation and downtown services for the city of Wilmington.
“The city has long-range plans to extend the Military Cutoff Trail to Eastwood Road, where it will connect to the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail,” Beatty said.
The project is not funded, but it is included as a priority in final draft of the Wilmington/New Hanover County Comprehensive Greenway Plan, Beatty said.
“Installing this section of trail will require the acquisition of multiple right-of-way easements which can add extensive time to the planning and design process,” Beatty said.
