We posed this question to New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington, since both operate parking decks downtown. Spokespersons for each government entity answered the question a little differently.
Wilmington has two parking decks; one on Second Street and another on Market Street. Together, they average approximately $3,300 per weekend, according to city spokeswoman Malissa Talbert.
New Hanover County’s parking deck at Second and Chestnut streets makes much less. Between Sept. 2011 and Sept. 2012, the county deck averaged about $800 each weekend, said county spokesman Charles Smith. “Obviously, it is highest during the summer months,” Smith said in an email. “This year it peaked in June.”
