Q. Are there any ordinances on trash pick-up times in residential neighborhoods in the county? Our development uses primarily one service, however there is one person on our cul-de-sac that uses another. It picks up anywhere from 3:30 to 4:30 a.m. and backs up the whole way with that loud beeper, every Wednesday morning.
A. There aren’t specifics about garbage truck noise in New Hanover County’s code of ordinances, said Joe Suleyman, director of the county’s department of environmental management.
But there are laws about noises and when people can make them, Suleyman said, referencing Chapter 23, Article II of the code of ordinances. A person wanting to file a noise complaint should reference that section, and they should file their complaint to the county sheriff or county attorney, Suleyman said.
You can call the sheriff’s office at 910-798-4200, and you can call the attorney’s office at 910-798-7153.
